Determine what special skills are in demand in your market. This is an important step to take when deciding on what special training you want to get. If there is not a big demand for a specific skill it won't be a skill that patients or employers will be willing to pay extra for.;

Promote your in-demand skills to your patients and employers. If you have received an advanced degree, certification in a special medical technique, or have learned how to use a new piece of cutting edge diagnostic machinery let people know. Display your degrees and certifications if you already have a practice, or show them to your potential employers if you are looking for a position.;

Know the value of your special training. If you don't know why your training is special, or why it is a valuable training to have, then your employers will probably not be willing to pay you extra for having that training. Research how your special training will benefit patients, and research what other professionals with that special training can charge for their services.;

Use your special training to attract new clients. Another approach to getting paid for your special training as a NP is to use your special training to increase your client base. Provide a list of the special training you have on your business card and in your advertisements to show potential clients that you are a highly qualified and skilled NP that will be able to provide them with top quality health care at an affordable rate.;

Use your special training to get supervisory positions or guest speaker positions. Look for opportunities to increase your income via administrative or oration options. For example apply for guest speaker positions for medical conferences, guest speakers for community health seminars, teach health issue classes, or consult.

If you don't know the value of your training people will be less willing to pay extra for that training.;

Select special training that is valuable in your market.;

Promote your special training by displaying your certificates and degrees and providing customers with information about your training so that they know the value of that training.

Not every special skill is valuable in every market.;

Make sure that the special training you receive will be something you will be able to use before you get it.;
