Your Shoes May Not Be the Cause of Your Sore Ankles, Achy Heels or Sore Knees
Are you a shoe lover? Are you also a woman who has sore ankles, achy heels or sore knees? Don't blame your shoes for your pain, until you read this.
Would you say lets go shopping? Wait. First consider this. The cause may not be your shoes, but in your feet or rather your gait. Your what, you may be wondering. One's gait is the way in which their feet hit the ground as they walk. When a person's gait is off, the person's alignment from his/her foot to his/her head can be off, as well. We all have our own unique stride or gait. Yet, if our stride is off it can cause us pain. A simple way to stop this pain and to align our gait is to add inserts to our shoes.
Supportive shoe inserts can ease foot and leg pain. They can redistribute any stresses from our heel to our toes. The majority of people who have tried foot supports have found relief from sore ankles, achy heels, sore knees and even leg pain.
You can buy some shoe inserts at most shoe stores or major department stores. If these do not work, you may want to obtain one from a podiatrist. First, a podiatrist will evaluate your gait. Then an impression will be made of your foot. This impression along with notes from your podiatrist stating what he/she assessed as your needs will then be sent to a special laboratory. The laboratory will use the image to generate a reverse image with a computer. Then the computer will create specifications for a polypropylene shoe insert. A special machine will then shape the shoe insert according to these specifications. Your podiatrist will then receive your shoe insert and will fit it to your foot or shoe.
You may want to have several of these shoe inserts made because different types of shoes will need different shapes and different types of shoes will place different stresses on your feet. If shoe inserts do not solve your heel pain, ankle pain or sore knees you may have other problems than just your gait. You could be suffering from:
Arthritis
A heel spur
Stress from being overweight
Chronic stress such as certain repetitive movements or having to stand a lot
Ligament weakness
If rest, ice packs (20 minute on and 20 minute off rituals three times a day), nonsteroildal anti-inflammatories (Motrin) do not help, you should definitely speak to your physician or consult with a podiatrist.
