Who Passed American Idol Group Day? Check This Out
On the February 10, 2020, edition of American Idol, it was time for the dreaded group day, a nightmare for Idol wannabes. Day one showed the contestants running around like chickens with their heads cut off. On day two, it was do or die.
New judge, Ellen DeGeneres, is fitting in quite nicely and has no fear of telling it like it is. But, I'll be honest, group day during American Idol's Hollywood week was much like driving through a small town -- blink once and you'll miss it. The focus of the show was Big Mike's brand new baby girl being born, Mary Powers' quest to live up to her last name, and sabotage attempts with groups Neapolitan and Destiny's Wild. The pressure proves too much for Kat Nestel and she quits.
American Idol made a feeble attempt at letting its viewers know who was performing, splashing the names of group members on the screen for some, but not all. I guess we're supposed to know the names of all 90 plus folks by now. I was heartbroken to see Matthew Lawrence cut from the show. Someone from Nashville needs to contact Lawrence and ex-Idol contestant, Vanessa Wolfe, and help them out. Here are the names (if I missed any, it's American Idol's fault) of those who passed Hollywood's group day.
Neapolitan
Liz Rooney, Thaddeus Johnson, Jessica Cunningham and Paige Miles
Team Awesome
Michael Lynche (Big Mike) and Tim Urban
Destiny's Wild
Todrick Hall, Jareb Liewer and Siobhan Magnus
Faith
Charity Vance, Ashley (Hobbs or Makailah, not sure which) and Michelle Delamor
The Mighty Rangers
Maddie Penrose and Tori Kelly
Phoenix
Jeff Goldford and Jermaine Sellers
Middle C
Janell Wheeler, Jermaine Purifoy and Casey James
Three Men and a Baby
Andrew Garcia, Katie Stevens and JB Ahfua
The Dreamers
Mary Powers, Hope Johnson and Alex Lambert
Ryan Seacrest commented that out of 91 Hollywood American Idol contestants, 71 will go on to the top 24 elimination round next week. They must be holding out on us because the above-mentioned list is no where near 71 folks.
