Womens Health Scares and Concerns This Year

Women worry about many things and health concerns are no different than any other things such as family or work. However many women neglect their health due to family and work constraints.

1. Breast Cancer - Breast Cancer is for most women a formidable scare, anytime they have a sore breast or find a nodule that seems a little more noticeable than it once was seems like an alarm goes off in your chest. The reality is that most women go through many normal breast changes during the month and not all soreness is cause for alarm. However if you find any nodule of any kind that seems different than before you should have it looked at and it is always best to let your medical professional to go over with you the proper way to do a self breast exam. Not to mention they can discuss with you any soreness that you may be having and whether it is normal or abnormal and if you need any testing scheduled.

2. Osteoporosis - Most women worry about bone loss once they reach menopausal age. This is simply due to the fact that they start to notice changes in their bones due to flexibility and mobility issues and without the estrogen in their systems they are likely to start to lose bone health. However there are appropriate treatments out there and if you have concerns about bone loss you should talk to your physician and have a bone density test to see if you are developing osteoporosis.

3. HRT - Hormone replacement therapy is a problem for many women post menopausal, mainly because HRT helps with the symptoms of menopause and without HRT menopause is almost unbearable and unfortunately since I have not reached that stage I have heard in some cases it is unbearable. There are alternatives therapies although as a nurse I am aware that the success rate is not very good. But if you have a high risk of breast cancer in your family it is best not to take HRT due to the increased risk of breast cancer with estrogen. Talk with your medical professional about your concerns and discuss all your options and ask people what they are using is my best advice. Most women are very helpful when it comes to providing the different treatments they are on for menopausal symptoms.

4. High blood pressure- Most women these days are well aware of the documented medical data on heart disease in women. High blood pressure increases with women as they age and even more when they go through menopause and after a hysterectomy. Women should maintain a healthy lifestyle and have their blood pressure checked regularly. If they are are hypertensive they will be most likely placed on medications and they should be very diligent at taking their medications on a daily basis. High blood pressure can cause strokes, heart attacks and death if not controlled properly.

5. Type 2 Diabetes - Type 2 Diabetes is unfortunately a condition that I was recently diagnosed with and mainly it is due to my unhealthy lifestyle. Americans have a high rate of obesity and unfortunately I am listed on this list. For my height and weight I am definitely overweight and I was always eat on the go type eater. This resulted in high blood sugar. Type 2 Diabetes can be controlled with diet and exercise however I could not bring down my blood sugar and have since been placed on medication. My diet has drastically be modified however it still needs a lot of work but this is definitely my number one health scare of the year.

6. MRSA - MRSA is a resistant staph infection that is plaguing many Americans right now. It is a very resistant form of infection that seems to lie dormant in some people who carry it and every time they get any type of outbreak it flares up causing boil like lesions on their bodies. MRSA is very infectious to anyone handling the bandages and coming in to contact with the lesions directly. Many women are infected by being the caretakers of their families such as the elderly.

7. Bowel and Colon problems - Many women are plagued with bowel and colon problems however it is hard for them to decipher what if any is a real health concern and should be seen by a medical professional. Many women go for a long time battling constipation before they ever say anything to their doctors and even diarrhea issues sometimes are not reported immediately. If you have any colon or bowel problems they can be treated and should be seen by a medical professional for proper treatment. Bleeding should always be reported immediately. Severely painful bowel movements is also not normal and should be reported accordingly.

8. Urinary incontinence - Urinary bladder problems is also a health issue that goes unreported for a long time by women. Most women as they age especially after childbirth start to lose the ability to hold their bladder as they once did because of weak pelvic muscles. This should be discussed with your medical professional for proper treatment. There are many treatments for urinary problems see your physician immediately.

9. Migraine and brain tumor scare - Many women have migraines which are characterized by intense pain and sensitivity to light and sound among many other symptoms. However for most women who suffer with severe chronic migraines they not only have to deal with the migraines but they also worry about aneurysms and brain tumors. This is more so brought about due to the severity of the chronic migraines and the suffering that they experience with them. I also suffer from migraines and I can tell you they are debilitating and excruciating. Not to mention ever since I have had them I have worried about the possibility of having an aneurysm one day and that would be all she wrote. More women have migraines than men and unfortunately for me I have one of the more severe forms of migraines and mine are not well controlled with medications.

10. H1N1 - Women are vastly aware of the swine flu that is now plaguing America. H1N1 is unfortunately hitting older people and younger people hard. Not to mention women who are pregnant have to be extreme aware of the virus and vaccination for the H1N1 virus is vitally important. This is probably the number one scare for most Americans these days since the flu vaccine is just now becoming available but is still somewhat hard to find.
