Eastbound and Down Season 2 Starts New Kenny Powers Comeback
The HBO cult comedy "Eastbound and Down" and its deranged former star Kenny Powers, will return to the mound Sept. 26 - albeit in Mexico. Until then, Kenny has found additional sponsorship from K-Swiss shoes, as a new video on Funny or Die shows.
Despite his stalled comeback, a new video on Funny or Die has Kenny offering his services to K-Swiss shoes. Naturally, his demands to the K-Swiss board - and his concepts for commercials - are insane and definitely not family-friendly. But those who watched Kenny Powers last year expect nothing less.
However, Eastbound and Down Season 2 may have Kenny needing sponsorship from Mexican companies. HBO announced Tuesday tha,t when the show returns on Sept. 26, Kenny will retreat to a Mexican baseball league, after being turned down by the big leagues once again. Michael Pena and Ana de la Reguera will be the new cast members in Kenny's path.
The newest Kenny Powers misadventures on Eastbound and Down Season 2 will be part of a new comedy block on HBO. The show will be paired with HBO's other cult sophomore comedy, Bored to Death, every Sunday night.
Starting Sept. 26, Bored to Death will air at 10 p.m. est, followed by Eastbound and Down at 10:30. But, despite the new pairing, both shows have a decidedly different comedy style, as the Funny or Die promo video shows.
However, the Eastbound and Down Season 2 cross promotion with K-Swiss doesn't stop with this video. The shoe company has actually started to air ads with Kenny Powers, although they are different from his original concepts - and can actually be aired on television.
This reflects the cult success that the show had in its debut season. The crazed, envelope-pushing, decidedly un-PC brand of comedy gained a devoted audience, and now they're aiming to expand it. Although Kenny may not be a brand and an icon anymore on the show, it may be different in some circles of the real world.
Despite this new promotion, no new footage from Eastbound and Down Season 2 has appeared yet. It will probably leak sometime before Sept. 26, however, to spread the gospel of Kenny Powers.
