Ivanka Trump Expanding Fashion Line: Amazing What You Can Achieve when Daddy is a Billionaire
Ivanka Trump teams with Marc Fisher to expand fashion line with shoes and accessories, but is she talented or just a beneficiary of daddy's wealth and influence?
Ivanka Trump was born to billionaire Donald Trump and socialite, Ivana Trump, in 1981. The heiress went to school at Choate, an exclusive private boarding school then, after two years at Georgetown University transferred to Wharton Business School where she graduated with a B.S. in Economics. From there she began a minor career in modeling with campaigns for American luminaries like Tommy Hilfiger.
Much of what Ivanka Trump has done though is through contacts of her father, Donald, and because of who she is. Her modeling career was more about 'billionaire heiress Ivanka Trump' than it was about her modeling ability or beauty (although she is pretty, she's not top fashion model material). She once hosted Miss Teen USA pageant, an outfit her father partly owns, and filmed several episodes of her father's reality TV show 'The Apprentice' and 'The Celebrity Apprentice'. With a bit of a bland personality, there's little doubt she wouldn't have had the opportunity to make shows like that on her own merit.
In business, Ivanka Trump has worked for several branches of her father's real estate empire and has written a book called 'The Trump Card', purported to teach young women about being successful in business and in life. Of course, success like Ivanka Trump's isn't possible for the vast majority of women who bought her book, simply because they don't have access to business opportunities because of who their father was or what influence he has.
Ivanka Trump also owns a jewelry shop on Madison Avenue. Called 'Ivanka Trump', it currently sells affordable jewelry. With this partnership with Mark Fisher, the boutique should soon be expanding to selling shoes, accessories and eventually handbags and wallets. Again, good for Ivanka but, don't for a minute think any normal American woman at her age (28) would have the money or opportunity to open a shop on Madison Avenue.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Ivanka Trump. She's taken the opportunities she's been given, albeit most of them opportunities no average American woman would be given, and done well. I simply think it interesting women like Ivanka Trump tout their success with little thought their success was based more on their father's success than on anything they did that was extraordinary.
