Limit the Heat Loss from Your House
Many homes are poorly insulated. Let's talk about Diagnosis to identify the causes and remedy of heat escaping,to prevent the loss of the heat from your house.
Roof, walls, doors, windows ... promote leakage of the heat produced by your house. Calculations show that the heat loss from a house, which is poorly insulated, can be equal to the cost up to $2,000 or $ 3,000 per year. Before starting work, a diagnostic is required. You can do this yourself by observing your home. Maybe you will have to call a specialist. However, you can also easily detect some losses.
Step 1: Inspect the walls
If you notice some discomfort in a wall, place your hand on it. If it is cold, then it is not or poorly insulated. Another clue: black marks in the corners (angled walls, wall-floor, floor-ceiling). These are related to mold condensation (cold wall). They create at thermal bridges when warm, moist air tries to escape from the cold spots that have not been or are poorly insulated.
A wetland down the walls indicates rising damp. These cause damage in the masonry, of heat losses and, where appropriate, the insulation deteriorates if it is hydrophobic.
Outlets embedded in the wall or insulating lining are also at the origin of thermal bridges. The air can actually step into the interstices of the wall box and follow the electrical conduit in direct contact with masonry. This is easily seen if we observe traces of dust around the plug (just put his hand to feel for the passage of air, or put his ear to hear the air rushing into the sheath).
Step 2: Insulate the attic
30% of heat loss is happen when air passes through the roof, which is not insulated! If you feel an updraft in the staircase, it is undoubtedly the heat escaping through the roof (in principle, the floor of attics should be insulated). Black marks at the hatch indicate a poor thermal insulation.
Living in the attic, the same phenomena are possible. Traces indicate crawling wet on water infiltration due to the absence of an underlying roof with ridge unsealed in tiles cracked, broken or fallen. Just look outside the roof or climbing on the roof to confirm the diagnosis. Water infiltration damages the structure as the existing insulation. Yellow drips are a symptom of wet mineral wool, in addition to damage to the underside of the slope causes a significant decrease in performance of the insulation.
Step 3: Check openings
The heat loss through the lower floors (median or basement) is less important. They detect the coldness of the ground when walking barefoot. The most devious occur on the periphery of intermediate floors. Mold can appear by insulation defects at the corner wall / floor and wall / ceiling when you are on the lower floor. Everyone knows that glass is a poor insulator. With single glazing, windows leak calories without restraint. Even with double-glazing, they can let the heat if the window seal / frame were do ne wrong. We can ensure as for sockets. Side door, the heat losses are minimal if it is full and if the type of seal has been treated well.
Step 4: Thermal diagnostics
There are different types of thermo graphs and blower door tests.
• The first is done with an infrared camera that shows the hot and cold sides of the frame. Seen from outside areas "orange" indicates heat loss areas and "blue" isolated parts of the building. From the inside, the opposite is true: the hot spots (red) show the insulated walls...
• Testing by blower (mandatory on houses) measure the air permeability and detect leaks related to a leak (eg joinery).
From these tests, the technician can deduct work to be done to correct the thermal losses.
Step 5: Permeability
Permeability is true with electronics and a fan installed on the door. They can put the house in order to measure the pressure the air permeability of the walls and check for air leaks.
Step 6: The air tightness
After the thermo graphic analysis, a test with a smoke generator should be done to check the air tightness of window casements.
Step 7: Fresh air
More the house is isolated (sealed), the more it must be ventilated.
Many people stop the ventilation or block the air to reduce the breakdown of local causing condensation problems. If your ventilation machine is old, change the engine block by a less energy efficient and quieter. Also, replace the inputs and outputs of air humidity controlled versions.
Let me add one more thing, after doing this in my house my house losses less heat and give a warm feeling, even in extreme cold days. I really love to be in my house and its a pleasant environment in my house all day and night. Ventilation system also becomes good of my house and there is proper exchange of outside and inside air. My family also feels good in my transformed house.
