Comedy Central Roast Puts Donald Trump in the Fire
If Donald Trump is serious about running for president this time, he would undergo a lot of pressure and character assassination. Therefore, being roasted by Comedy Central's band of raunchy comics may have been good practice.
Every several months or so, the cable channel brings out an ideal target to slam over and over again. This edition had Seth MacFarlane as the host, and traditional roasters like Jeffrey Ross, Lisa Lampanelli and Whitney Cummings firing the raunchy zingers.
In addition, the latest roast had Trump get ribbed by Snoop Dogg, Larry King, and even The Situation himself. However, the fellow New Jersey icon was meet with jeers for his act, as Ross had to come on to bail him out.
Trump also got jabbed by his current celebrity employee, Marlee Matlin, who eventually brought on Gilbert Gottfried as her interpreter. This special was taped before Gottfried got in trouble with his Tweets about Japan - but fittingly, someone said it was "too soon" when Gottfried used a joke about Trump being like the 20th 9/11 hijacker.
Still, the roast was missing an old favorite, after the death of Greg Giraldo in September. He was a staple at these specials, so they had to take time out to mention him as well. Other than that, much of the old gang was there, and hearing off-color jokes about themselves for the millionth time as well.
But the main target was still Trump, who actually used his speech to tease a possible run for president. He tried to comically compare America's current state to his roasters, yet he seemed to be serious when he said he'd be the greatest president ever.
Past victims of the Comedy Central roast haven't had these aspirations, or threatened to have them. But Trump teased that a decision would come in June, after Celebrity Apprentice comes to an end. However, he has flirted with the idea of running for years, so people may not believe him until he actually throws his hair in the ring.
Of course, if he does run, few voters might take him too seriously. The roast of Donald Trump could have ensured that, although many people likely saw him as a joke well before then.
