Get Your Feet Ready for Fall Shoes
Getting your feet ready now for wearing your fall shoes will help ward off dry winter feet and other foot problems such as blisters and calluses.
The first thing you need to do to get your feet ready for fall shoes is to cut your toenails. Cut them short enough so that when you put on a pair of shoes you don't feel them pressing against the closed-toe part of your shoes. By cutting your toenails short, you're avoiding putting undo pressure on your toes which can lead to undo pressure on your feet causing foot and back pain.
Buy some Vaseline if you don't already have some. Vaseline is a wonder product and has so many different uses. If you are going to wear your fall shoes without hosiery, keep Vaseline and small bandages such as Band-Aids in your purse. As soon as you feel irritation, put some Vaseline on the irritated spot and cover it with a bandage. This will help to prevent blisters if you catch the irritation in time.
If you don't already have a nighttime moisturizing routine for your feet, then start one. Regular nightly moisturizing will help keep the skin of your feet soft which in turn will help your fall shoes feel better on your feet. Regular moisturizing and exfoliating will prevent dry skin build-up and calluses. To fully moisturize your feet, rub moisturizing lotion on before you go to bed and put on a pair of socks to aid in the moisturizing process.
Flex your feet and do foot exercises and stretches regularly once you start wearing your fall shoes. Sit on a chair and put your legs out in front of you. Point your toes forward so that you feel a stretch down your shins and the top of your feet. Then point your toes back towards you so that you feel the stretch in your calf muscles. Hold for a count of three in each direction. Do as many as you can in the time you have available like when you're watching TV or sitting at your desk. Once you go from wearing flat sandals and flip-flops to wearing fall heels, you'll need to pay attention to your calf muscles so you don't cramp them up. Doing these stretches will help prevent cramping.
