Right Guard Vs. Adidas
Finding a deodorant is easy. Finding one that works is the hard part.
It's so tough to find the right deodorant. All guys sweat, and finding a deodorant/anti-perspirant that will last all day is really a lot harder than it looks. But as a guy who feels he sweats more than most, I was more than ready for the challenge.
I made my comparison choice based strictly on the recommendations of friends and the mass advertising that I saw on TV. I narrowed it down to two of the top men's brands. In one corner we had Right Guard Sport Clear Gel. It's opponent: Adidas Sport Fever.
My initial thought, without ever having used both( my father raised me as a Mitchum man), was that Adidas would prevail. After all, I figured that a company which makes sports wear for a living would know what's best when it comes to keeping a man from smelling while active.
My first test was the smell test. I took the caps off of both and gave a whiff. The early advantage: Right Guard. I liked the way Adidas smelled, but I felt that it wasn't quite strong enough. I certainly would not want to wear a deodorant that was overpowering, but I didn't want the smell to be categorized as faint. Right Guard had a strong scent without being overpowering.
With the smell test giving an early nod to Right Guard, I figured it was time to put these two products to the test. My test would be to wear them on consecutive days at work. My thinking was that since I work in a pharmacy, it's climate controlled and the nature of my work isn't too intense that it could spoil the accuracy of my findings.
The Adidas Sport Fever was first. Initially, I felt good having it on. It rolled on nice, no mess, nothing got on my shirt. It went on easy. I started my shift and was seeing no dampness on my work shirt.
From there, everything seemed to go downhill.
As my day went on I started to smell the deodorant wearing off. Its ability to block out the natural odor I was producing was terrible. I needed to reapply half way through my shift. Luckily I had brought the product with me. By the time I got home after work, I needed to reapply again. That means three times in about a twelve hour period. I was disappointed and hoping that Right Guard would yield better results.
The next day I applied the Right Guard Sport Clear Gel. It's application wasn't as good as Adidas. No matter how little I pulled to the surface to use, I couldn't help but feel as if it was a bit clumpy on my underarm. Also, some of the gel came off onto my undershirt.
Still, with a tad bit of mess aside, I started my shift feeling confident about the way I smelled. As I got to the halfway point in my shift, I gave the old smell test and Right Guard passed with flying colors. As my shift let off I decided to check again and I was still smelling as well as I did when I walked into work.
So the choice here was clear. Right Guard was by far the better deodorant. Adidas got points for it's no mess application but it didn't little for me as I spent the rest of the day reapplying. While Right Guard may have felt a little more messy going on, it did exactly what I wanted: It kept me smelling fresh from punch in to punch out.
