Emma Watson Returning to College, Other Actors Who Went Back to School
Emma Watson announced that she is returning to college to continue her education. With the 'Harry Potter' star headed back to school, here is a look at other actors who went back to college.
Emma Watson is heading back to school. The "Harry Potter" actress has chosen to return to Brown University to continue her education, proving that she is on a completely different level than many of today's young adult movie stars. While people like Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes continue to spiral out of control in their lives, Watson said in an interview with Rookie Mag (via E Online) that she is not, by nature, someone who wants to party and create an infamous persona.
While this is refreshing, Watson is not the only person who chose to head back to school and work to further her education despite the allure of Hollywood.
Claire Danes
Claire Danes became one of the most sought after stars in America thanks to her role in the cult favorite TV show "My So Called Life." She also had big roles in popular movies like "Little Women" and the Baz Luhrmann adaptation "Romeo + Juliet." However, just as her star began to rise, Danes took some time off. Instead of just continuing to build her Hollywood career, Danes went back to Yale to continue her education. When she returned to movies in 2002, she starred in "Igby Goes Down," alongside Kieran Culkin, another child star who shook off the stigma of tragic young celebs.
James Franco
Another actor who went back to school did so long after their fame had reached the pinnacle. While James Franco did not necessarily step out of the limelight, he did cut back on his acting work to re-enter college and work on his education. It started at UCLA in 2020, where he studied English with an emphasis on creative writing. Franco himself said that was because he was dissatisfied with the direction of his career.
Returning to school seemed to be something Franco enjoyed. He graduated in 2020 with an undergraduate degree and then enrolled in Columbia University, still studying writing, as well as NYU, where he studied filmmaking. To top it off, he also enrolled at Warren Wilson College, where he studied poetry. The extra college work might have helped Franco, as he picked up his first Oscar nomination in 2020 for "127 Hours," a film he worked on while enrolled at NYU.
